Service Description

This 14-week unit is designed for designers who want to move beyond surface decoration and begin thinking through materials. It’s an immersion into professional printmaking practices — where fabric becomes both language and landscape. Developed in collaboration with Atelier Textile, this unit offers access to a full-scale print lab and technical mentorship from industry practitioners specialized in advanced textile processes. Why Join Most designers print on fabric. Here, you print into it. Within the LIGNES DE FUITE System, printmaking is not a decorative exercise — it’s a form of authorship. You’ll learn to develop textures, patterns, and material expressions that hold conceptual weight and visual authority. Leads Atelier Textile Lead Instructor — Industry-based printmaker with advanced technical expertise Milan Tanedjikov — Founder of LIGNES DE FUITE, guiding conceptual direction, garment realization, and exhibition strategy Structure Weeks 1–7 — Technical Exploration You’ll explore a range of professional printmaking methods including: Screen printing • Sublimation • Transfer • Resist & discharge • Hybrid layering • Dye-based approaches. Each session builds both technique and critical understanding. You’ll document, experiment, and build a personal technical library that supports your conceptual intent. Weeks 8–14 — Subtraction and Surface In the second phase, exploration turns into synthesis. Using subtraction cutting techniques developed by Julian Roberts as a spatial framework, each participant will construct a garment that reveals, conceals, and reorganizes their printed material. The project remains intentionally open-ended — what matters is how the print interacts with form, volume, and movement. Participants are encouraged to treat this as an investigation, not a final statement — a living proof of concept in material intelligence. All works will be shown publicly at the LIGNES DE FUITE Design Research Exhibit, where each participant’s process and position become part of a collective discourse on contemporary textile authorship. What You Gain Mastery — Hands-on access to Atelier Textile’s professional facilities Authorship — Develop your own printed material and its structural language Visibility — Exhibition in a recognized design research context Community — Embedded collaboration with peers and practitioners Focus — Limited to 8 participants for concentrated dialogue and feedback Flexible payment structures available upon request.
